These gourds were done using a dremil to carve
and on the rose - to also do cut-outs.
Then I used leather dyes and stains to color

The rose decorated gourd stands around 10 inchs
the grape decorated gourd bowl stands around 5 inchs

These photograghs do not do justice to the art work!
Both items won first place in their class at the 2003 Ohio Gourd Show
The rose also won the Stevens family award
Praise God - It was nice winning ,
but it was even more fun just being a part of the show!

I use leather stains to color areas that have been carved
Leather dyes to color the areas which I have not carved
You can also use acrylic paint mixed with translucent gel
The gel will allow you to still view the natural gourd markings
Which , if you use acrylic paint by itself - you cannot see
The tips I use in my rotary tool are usually micro carbide bits- router types

This apple gourd was done by my nephew William
It came in fourth place in the junior division
He did a good job at painting it!
The leaf was a piece of gourd shaped to resemble an apple leaf
Attached then by wire to the gourds stem area
