The following pictures are of a car boy-
What made this item collectable for me - is that:
A}It is inclosed inside the original shipping crate
B}The Crate has the addresses of the sender and receiver on it
C}A The portion of the paper label is still intact
This bottle has an applied lip
From The neck area is hand blown
The rest being mold blown - looks to be a three part mold
It has not been taken out of the crate
There would be no pontil mark
Date probably late 1910s - early 1920s
I am not familar with how to date crates by looking at the construction
If you can tell via these photograghs,
please leave the info in my guest book.THANKS!
The bottle was full of liquid - believed to be original
Oftin the pharmacist would mix thier own recipes for medicines
- that is likely what this liquid was for
Several friends ,and I, did sample it
Tasted of strongly spiced wine
It was most likely cough medicine, or part of the recipe for such
Short HISTORY of Demi-Johns and CAR-BOYS
Historically these bottles were used to Transport, and store medicines
or other liquids.
The bottle photograghed here is a CAR-BOY
Car-Boys having straighter sides
Demi-johns being shaped more like a large onion.
Do you know any info about whom made the bottles
and/or crates that Park Davis used in shipping their medicines?
Do you know how to locate any info that might answer those questions?
If so - PLEASE leave info in my guest book - THANK You!
